Easter Sunday

As the Church gathers to celebrate the good news of Christ’s resurrection, we are reminded of the dual nature of Easter’s invitation and warning. Through Christ, all believers receive true fellowship with God and will experience the fullness of that fellowship in the perfect, forever to come. Rather than seeking satisfaction in the fleeting things of this world, Tyler Briggs leads us to sit in and savor the riches of our salvation in Christ— past, present, and future.

Tyler’s Main Point

  • Easter is the invitation to fellowship at the Lord’s table.

Key Takeaways

  • Easter is the celebration of the invitation to fellowship in an all-satisfying relationship with a holy God.

  • Jesus came not to save saints, but sinners. The same kind of people that gathered at the Last Supper gather now for the Lord’s Supper— sinners in need of a savior.

  • You receive the invitation of Easter through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.

  • Our fellowship with God today is a foretaste of the perfect, forever fellowship to come.

  • We live in “a time between the tables”— the Last Supper and the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. What we know in part now, we will know in full at the banquet to come.

  • All believers will be blessed at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb by being glorified and no longer plagued with sin, being fully and finally unified, and reunited with all saints of all time for all time.

  • Easter is not only an invitation but a warning. There is a limited amount of time to receive Christ’s invitation and only those who respond in faith will be saved.

Discussion Questions/Application

Personal application:

  • Dedicate intentional time this week to specifically pray for the people in your life who have not yet received Christ’s invitation of forgiveness and fellowship.

  • How will you increasingly center your life upon the good news of Christ’s death and resurrection? How will today look different because of the certain hope you have in Christ?

Discuss with your community group:

  • As referenced in Isaiah 55:1-2, where are you seeking to be satisfied with what won’t satisfy you? How is Christ the answer and antidote to what you’re chasing after in life?

  • How did God stir your affections for Him this past Passion Week and build anticipation for His glorious kingdom to come?
