Jarius’ Daughter

Since the Fall, death has invaded and pervaded all of creation. This week’s sermon series The Gospel of Luke, Part II: A Journey through Galilee showcases not only Christ’s power and authority over death, but His invitation to hope amidst life’s most desperate tragedies. Because of His glorious resurrection, death is not the end for God’s people, but a new beginning.

Drew’s Main Points

  • Desperate people with radical faith.

  • Jesus has the power and authority to reverse sin’s effects in our lives.

  • Jesus’s authority over death.

Key Takeaways

  • There’s no amount of money, power, or planning that can keep us from experiencing life’s tragedies. Nonetheless, there’s hope and His name is Jesus.

  • The thing that qualifies us to draw near to Jesus is our desperate faith. He has compassion on our desperation.

  • God calls us to draw near to Him and rewards those who earnestly seek Him.

  • Don’t be too prideful to draw near to God. You can’t do life on your own. Real strength comes from admitting your own weakness and drawing on God’s strength.

  • Jesus meets us in our messy, unclean lives and He gets dirty so that we can become clean.

  • Jesus both cures the bleeding woman physically and cleanses her spiritually. Jesus calls her daughter and invites her into a relationship with her Healer and her Savior.

  • By grace and through faith, Jesus reinstates us into fellowship with God and with His people and reverses the effects of sin in our lives.

  • Death is the ultimate sting. Every single one of us will cross through death’s door. The enemy’s hope is that death would lead us to despair.

  • In the face of death, it’s so easy to despair. Jesus sees Jairus in his despair and emerges victorious over death.

  • Jesus is the source of all life and has authority over death. Through His resurrection, Jesus delivered the death blow to death.

  • “Death used to be an executioner, but because of the cross of Jesus Christ, death has become a gardener. All it can do now is plant me in the love of Christ and help me grow up in ways I never knew before.” George Herbert

  • We can have hope in the face of death because we have a Savior who stands with us and stands victorious over death.

Discussion Questions/Application
