Sending The Twelve

As consumer-Christianity continues to mar the modern church, this week’s sermon series The Gospel of Luke, Part II: A Journey through Galilee calls us to a deep devotion to our Savior that will compel us to love the lost. Ultimately, we have not only been saved as God’s people, but saved for God’s mission as a kingdom of priests and preachers.

Tyler’s Main Points

  • Jesus sends out His ambassadors to preach the Gospel and love people.

  • Faithful ambassadors draw attention to Jesus.

  • Ambassadors enjoy sharing about the work of the ministry with Jesus and one another.

Key Takeaways

  • We are Christ’s ambassadors and have been called to continue Christ’s mission to seek and save the lost.

  • Jesus gave the apostles the power and authority to drive out demons, heal sickness, and proclaim the kingdom of God.

  • One of the main purposes of Jesus’s miracles was to authenticate Himself as the Messiah. The authenticating signs Jesus performed were an expression of God’s love towards the suffering and the lost.

  • The foundation of the apostles’ ministry was personal time with Jesus.

  • If our devotion to Christ is lacking, likely our desire to be Christ’s ambassador will be lacking as well.

  • Whereas the apostles’ ministry was authenticated by miraculous healings, our ministry as Christ’s ambassadors is authenticated by our love for one another and our love for our enemies.

  • Relationship-driven mission, fueled by God’s love for us and our love for Him, is the antidote to boring, stagnant consumer-Christianity.

  • From cover to cover, God’s Word showcases God’s mission for God’s people to be sent as zealous ambassadors of the light into a world of darkness.

  • Our responsibility is to share the message of salvation and trust God as the agent of transformation.

  • The blueprint for Christ’s ambassadors is to be with Him, live for Him, and love for Him
